Abstract
ABSTRACT Tri Cahya Irani. 2025. Implementation of Jigsaw Type Cooperative Learning Model Using Big Book Media in Teaching Reading Comprehension in Grade V of Ledokkulon I Elementary School, Bojonegoro Regency. Thesis. Master of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program. Graduate School of PGRI Madiun University (UNIPMA). Supervisor I: Dr. Elva Nuraina, M.Si., Supervisor II: Dr. Kodrat Eko Putro Setiawan, M.Pd. Keywords: Jigsaw model, Big Book, reading comprehension, cooperative learning. This research aims to describe the planning, implementation, and outcomes of applying the Jigsaw cooperative learning model using Big Book media in teaching reading comprehension to fifth-grade students at SD Negeri Ledokkulon I, Bojonegoro Regency. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects consisted of a classroom teacher and 30 fifth-grade students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and analysis of reading comprehension test results. The findings indicate that: (1) The learning plan was well-prepared through a comprehensive teaching module, including learning objectives, Jigsaw activity design, selection of Big Book media, and assessment instruments; (2) The implementation followed the full sequence of the Jigsaw model, including forming home groups, expert groups, segment discussions, peer teaching, summary writing, and evaluation. The Big Book media successfully enhanced students’ attention and understanding of the text; (3) The outcomes show an improvement in students’ reading comprehension skills, reflected in an average test score of 81, increased student engagement, and better collaboration within groups. It can be concluded that the Jigsaw cooperative learning model aided by Big Book media is effective in improving students’ reading comprehension and social skills. This model is recommended for Indonesian language learning at the elementary school level.
