Dian Retnasari (2025) : Improving Beginning Reading Skills Through Multisensory Methods with the Use of Word Cards in Indonesian Language Lessons for Grade 1 of SD Negeri 1 Baosan Kidul, Ngrayun District, Ponorogo Regency. Thesis. Madiun: Postgraduate Study Program, PGRI Madiun University. Supervisors (1) Dr. Bambang Eko Hari Cahyono, M.Pd., (II) Dr. Sigit Ricahyono, S.S., M.Pd., Early reading skills are an important foundation for children's literacy development in elementary school. However, many first-grade students at SDN 1 Baosan Kidul still experience difficulties with early reading. This problem is caused by low interest in reading, a lack of varied learning methods, and a lack of supportive learning environments. This situation demands learning innovations that can accommodate children's comprehensive learning needs.The multisensory method, which activates all senses (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile), is considered a suitable solution to this challenge. With the help of word cards, students are encouraged to learn to read actively and enjoyably, thereby improving their mastery of letter symbols, pronunciation, and basic understanding of text.This study used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) model of Kemmis and Mc. Taggart, conducted in three cycles. The subjects were 23 first-grade students at SDN 1 Baosan Kidul. The results showed that the application of the multisensory method with word cards significantly improved students' early reading skills and learning motivation.
