Abstract

Jemi Hari Puryanto. 2025. Improving Narrative Text Writing Skills Through Differentiated Learning Based on Film for Eighth-Grade Students at SMPN 3 Sine. Thesis. Madiun: Master's Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Postgraduate Faculty, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Advisors: (I) Dr. Bambang Eko Hari Cahyono, M.Pd., (II) Dr. Dwi Rohman Soleh, S.S., M.Pd. Keywords: Narrative Text, Differentiated Learning, Film This study aimed to describe and explain the improvement in students' learning outcomes in narrative text material after implementing film-based differentiated learning for eighth-grade students at SMPN 3 Sine Ngawi during the 2024/2025 academic year. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) study, employing a mixed-methods approach that combines qualitative and quantitative methods to obtain more comprehensive data, including students' responses to film-based differentiated learning. The research was conducted at SMPN 3 Sine, Ngawi Regency. The subjects of the study were 32 eighth-grade students. The object of this research was writing narrative texts. The research was carried out in two cycles, each consisting of four stages: preparation, action, observation, and analysis and reflection. This research was conducted collaboratively between the researcher and the Indonesian language teacher. Data collection techniques included tests and observations. The data collection instruments used were tests and observation sheets. The results of this study indicate that film-based differentiated learning can improve the narrative text writing skills of eighth-grade students at SMPN 3 Sine. This improvement is reflected in the quality of the learning process, which is evident from students' activeness, attention, improved achievement in writing narrative texts, and increased motivation during learning. The improvement can be seen from the students' learning completeness in each cycle, which was 78.1% in Cycle I and increased to 87.5% in Cycle II. Student learning motivation also increased in each cycle, from 74.2% in Cycle I to 89.8% in Cycle II. The increase in student activity behavior in narrative text writing report activities improved from 77.0% in Cycle I to 90.6% in Cycle II.
