Abstract

Happiness is one of the most important aspects in the development of adolescent children. This happiness is generally subjective or varies. The happiness of a child from a broken home is certainly clearly different from a child who has an intact family. This research aims to find out the meaning of happiness among students at SMP Negeri 5 Madiun City and to find out the impact of broken homes that affect individual students at SMP Negeri 5 Madiun City. In previous research, it shows that the meaning of happiness for children from broken homes is certainly different for each individual. This research attempts to examine more deeply the subjective meaning of happiness, especially for broken home students. The research design used in this research is a qualitative case study approach. The research subjects were class VIII students using purposive sampling technique. The selected sample was based on considerations from this research to take samples with the aim of avoiding sample selection on subjects based on things outside the data needs of the research. The data collection techniques used were in accordance with the characteristics and types of data needed, such as interviews, and data analysis techniques were carried out during or while data collection was ongoing. The results of interviews with broken home students showed that they had tried to accept their current family conditions. Meanwhile, the influence of the negative impact of broken homes on students tends to lead to the concept of academic problems and behavior problems. Suggestions in this research can build happiness to become a person who has positive feelings. So that they can carry out their activities well as students.
