Abstract
Riska Mifthakul Khasanah, 2025. Comparative Study of the Level of Student Engagement and Interest in Learning in the Electrical Engineering Education Study Program Regarding Theory and Practical Lectures. Electrical Engineering Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Supervisors: (I) Ihtiari Prastyaningrum, S.Si., M.Si, (II) Ir. Sulistyaning Kartikawati, M.M., M.Pd. This research focused on students in the Electrical Engineering Education Study Program enrolled in semesters 2, 4, and 6. The main objective of this study was to determine the differences in the level of engagement and interest in learning between two academic learning approaches: theoretical and practical learning. Through the use of a Likert scale, this study examined students' attitudes, opinions, and motivations toward the two learning methods. The results indicate that the level of student engagement has a significant influence on the achievement of learning outcomes, which is the main focus of this study. Theoretically, this study contributes to understanding the factors influencing student participation and learning interest and can serve as a foundation for developing more effective and contextual learning models. Practically, this research encourages students to reflect on their learning experiences to find learning approaches that best suit their individual characteristics. Thus, this study not only presents a comparison between theoretical and practical learning but also offers teaching strategies that have the potential to increase student participation and learning interest, particularly in Electrical Engineering Education. The findings indicate that students demonstrated higher levels of engagement and learning interest in practical learning, with an average engagement score of 87.73 and a learning interest score of 90.93, both in the very high category. Conversely, in theoretical learning, the average engagement score was 40.43 (low category) and a learning interest score of 42.07 (moderate category). The conclusion of this study is that students are more interested in practical learning because it is more applicable and interactive. Keywords : Theory and Practical Learning, Students, Electrical Engineering Education.
