Abstract

Primary education plays a vital role in developing students initial knowledge and abilities, especially in numeracy. However, observations in Grade V of SDN 1 Baosan Lor revealed low numeracy skills, with only 5 out of 24 students meeting the minimum mastery criteria (KKM) of 75. This issue was attributed to the lack of effective learning models and media in the classroom, resulting in student boredom and difficulty understanding mathematics material. This study aimed to determine the improvement of students’ numeracy skills in mathematics, particularly in whole numbers up to one million, through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning model assisted by Number Bag media. This research employed a classroom action research (CAR) method conducted in two cycles. The subjects were 24 fifth-grade students of SDN 1 Baosan Lor, Ponorogo Regency. Data were collected in each cycle. The results showed a significant improvement in numeracy skills with the use of the Problem Based Learning model assisted by the Number Pouches. Student mastery increased from 12.5% in the pre-cycle to 41.7% in the first cycle, and further to 91.7% in the second cycle. The study concludes that implementing the Problem Based Learning model assisted by Number Bag can effectively improve the numeracy skills of fifth-grade students at SDN 1 Baosan Lor.
