Abstract

The development of technology has significantly influenced university students, particularly in enhancing their productivity and daily tasks—one such advancement being online credit payment systems (pay later). The Spaylater feature is quite well-known among Economic Education students as a form of online credit used for shopping on the Shopee application or making online payments through QRIS. In this study, 20 students were identified as active Spaylater users, while 4 students had previously used the feature. The purpose of this research is to understand the use of Spaylater among Economic Education students at University of PGRI Madiun. This is a qualitative study using a descriptive method. The data sources include primary data from the Economic Education students and secondary data from relevant documents. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique follows the model by Miles & Huberman (1994), which involves data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing with verification. The results indicate that the financial condition of Economic Education students at Universitas PGRI Madiun tends to be safe and stable, with most relying on allowances from their parents. Nevertheless, the Spaylater service is still utilized as an alternative when facing financial constraints. The frequency of Spaylater usage varies, often increasing during promotional events or voucher offers. The main reason students use Spaylater is the availability of discounts and cashback offers. Influencing factors include psychological, social, technical, economic, and financial literacy aspects. Spaylater provides positive impacts such as convenience and benefits in transactions but also carries risks such as encouraging a consumptive lifestyle and excessive spending.
