Abstract
Sriatun. 2026. “Improving Speaking Skills Using Illustrated Story Media for Children Aged 5–6 Years at TK I Roudlotus Salamah, Banjaransari Village.” Undergraduate Thesis. Early Childhood Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas PGRI Madiun. Supervisors: (I) Dr. Fida Chasanatun, M.Pd.; (II) Sofia Nur Afifah, M.Pd. This study aims to examine the improvement of speaking skills through the use of illustrated story media among children aged 5–6 years at TK I Roudlotus Salamah, Banjaransari Village, Padas District, Ngawi Regency. It also explores the advantages and disadvantages of using illustrated story media to enhance the language skills of children in this age group at the same institution. The research employs a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design, conducted by the researcher in her capacity as the class teacher. The study consists of two cycles, with each cycle comprising three sessions. It follows the Kemmis and McTaggart model, which includes the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of the study are children in Group B at TK I Roudlotus Salamah, consisting of 5 boys and 7 girls. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation, with an observation sheet serving as the primary instrument. Data analysis is performed using both qualitative and quantitative descriptive methods. The success indicator for this study is defined as 75% of the children demonstrating an improvement in their speaking skills. The results indicate an improvement in speaking skills following instruction that utilized illustrated story media. Observations during the pre-action phase showed that no children met the "developing very well" criterion (scoring 81–100%). Following the implementation of the first cycle, the proportion of children reaching the "developing very well" criterion for speaking skills increased to 83.3%. The steps taken to improve speaking skills involve the teacher preparing colorful and engaging picture books. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of illustrated storybooks as a medium can enhance the speaking abilities of children aged 5–6 years at TK I Roudlotus Salamah, located in Banjaransari Village, Padas District, Ngawi Regency.
