Abstract
Writing recount text remains a challenging task for many senior high school students due to difficulties in generating ideas, organizing narratives, and applying correct grammar. This study investigates the implementation of comic strips and project-based learning as an integrated approach to teaching recount text writing to tenth-grade students at SMAN 1 Barat. A descriptive qualitative method was employed. The data gathered through classroom observation, semi-structured interviews with the English teacher and five students, and documentation. The results show that the learning process was carried out in three stages: introduction, core activities, and conclusion. During the main activity, students created comic strips based on personal experiences, exchanged comics with other groups, and wrote recount texts based on those comics. Some of the challenges that arose included lack of optimal time management, difficulties in monitoring device use, uneven student participation within groups, and challenges related to grammar and vocabulary. To address these issues, the teacher set time limits, clarified learning objectives, assigned roles within groups, and provided direct language guidance. These findings suggest that the combination of Project-Based Learning and comic strips can serve as an alternative approach to teaching students how to write recount texts in school.
