Abstract
Adolescent self-identity is an important developmental achievement influenced by environmental and internal individual factors. Authoritarian parenting is regarded as an external factor, whereas emotional maturity represents an internal factor contributing to the formation of self-identity, particularly among first-born adolescents. This study aimed to determine the influence of authoritarian parenting on adolescent self-identity, the influence of emotional maturity on adolescent self-identity, and the simultaneous influence of both variables on the self-identity of first-born adolescents at SMK Negeri 2 Jiwan. A quantitative approach with an ex post facto design was employed. The population consisted of 206 eleventh-grade students who were first-born children, while a sample of 67 students was selected using a purposive sampling technique based on the Slovin formula. Data were collected through questionnaires that met validity and reliability requirements and were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The findings revealed that authoritarian parenting had a negative and significant effect on adolescent self-identity (β = −0.522; t = −6.990; p < 0.001), whereas emotional maturity had a positive and significant effect on adolescent identity (β = 0.363; t =3.605; p =.001). Simultaneously, authoritarian parenting and emotional maturityhad a significant effect on adolescent identity (F = 38.288; p < .001), with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.705, indicating that both variables jointly explained 70.5% of the variance in adolescent identity.
