Improving Descriptive Writing Skills Through a Contextual Approach Assisted by Environmental Media for Grade VI Students of SD Negeri Tinawun I, Malo District, Bojonegoro Regency. Theses. Keywords: writing descriptions, contextual approaches, and the surrounding environment This study aims to describe and explain (1) the application of a contextual approach assisted by environmental media in learning to write descriptions of grade VI students of SD Negeri Tinawun I, Malo District, Bojonegoro Regency and (2) the activities of grade VI students of SD Negeri Tinawun I, Malo District, Bojonegoro Regency in participating in learning to write descriptions through a contextual approach assisted by environmental media. This study is a classroom action research with two research cycles. The results of this study are (1) the average value of students is 61.97 with a sufficient category. The average value after the action cycle I is 74.08 with a sufficient category. The average value of students after the action cycle II is 81.80 with a good category, and (2) students' activities towards environmental media as one way of learning to write descriptions are very positive. Based on the results of interviews in cycle I, on average they responded positively to the learning that had been delivered by the teacher. In addition, based on the results of observations in Cycle I, 75% of the total number of students, they paid close attention to the teacher's explanation during the learning process, even in Cycle II the number of students who liked 90%, they really liked learning with environmental media. Likewise with student activity, in cycle I students who were not active were 25%, but in Cycle II, students who were not active decreased to 10% or around 4 students.
