Reading ability is a fundamental skill that must be mastered by elementary school students as a foundation for understanding various learning materials. Preliminary observations indicated that the reading ability of Grade III students in understanding texts about various professions was still low. This condition was characterized by limited mastery and low student activeness and collaboration during the learning process. Therefore, an appropriate learning design is needed to improve students’ reading skills while fostering active participation and cooperation. This study aims to improve students’ reading skills in profession-related texts through the implementation of the Cooperative Learning model using the Jigsaw technique supported by letter card media. The study employed a qualitative approach using the Design-Based Research (DBR) method, conducted in two cycles. The research subjects were Grade III students of SD Negeri 1 Tritik. The results of this study are expected to indicate that the application of the Cooperative Learning model with the Jigsaw technique assisted by letter card media can improve students’ activeness and collaboration during learning activities. This study is expected an innovative, contextual, learning design for Indonesian language instruction in elementary schools.
