Abstract
This study aims to describe and explain (1) the application of guided composition techniques assisted by picture media that can improve descriptive writing skills of grade VI students of SDN 1 Semanding, Jenangan District, Ponorogo Regency and (2) changes in learning behavior of grade VI students of SDN 1 Semanding, Jenangan District, Ponorogo Regency after participating in descriptive writing learning using guided composition techniques assisted by picture media. This study is a classroom action research with two research cycles. The results of this study are: (1) the application of picture media with guided composition techniques can improve descriptive writing skills of grade VI students of SDN 1 Semanding, Jenangan District, Ponorogo Regency. This is proven by the results of cycle I which obtained an average value of 70.78, while in cycle II the average class value was 82.61. This shows an increase from cycle I to cycle II of 16.71% and (2) changes in the behavior of grade VI students of SDN 1 Semanding, Jenangan District, Ponorogo Regency after participating in descriptive writing skills learning through picture media with guided composition techniques have changed. These changes in student behavior can be proven from the results of non test data in the form of observations, journals, and interviews. Changes in student behavior can be seen clearly during learning. Based on the results of non-test data in cycle I, negative student behavior is still apparent during learning. In cycle II, negative student behavior decreases and positive student behavior increases.
