Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of Big Book media in early reading instruction for early childhood at Dharma Wanita Tebon Kindergarten. Reading instruction for early childhood is crucial as a foundation for developing their literacy skills. However, the availability of learning media at Dharma Wanita Tebon Kindergarten is still limited, necessitating the development of engaging and effective media. This study uses a Research and Development (RnD) approach with the ADDIE development model, which consists of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The development results show that the Big Book media is designed with large text, attractive images, and simple sentences that are appropriate for children's developmental stages. The trial was conducted involving media experts, material experts, and parents of students, which showed very positive results. The results of the validation test by media experts and material experts showed that this media is suitable for use without revision. In addition, the respondent test from parents showed a satisfaction level of 94.86%, indicating that this media is effective in improving children's early reading skills. Overall, the developed Big Book media has proven effective and suitable for use to support early reading learning in early childhood at Dharma Wanita Tebon Kindergarten. As a follow-up, it is recommended that the dissemination of the use of this media be expanded to other early childhood groups, both in surrounding kindergartens and at the elementary education level.
