Abstract
This study aimed to improve narrative essay writing skills for Class IV students at SD Negeri 2 Kramat Nganjuk through the application of the Cooperative Script Learning Method assisted by Story Dialogue. This study employed classroom action research (CAR) conducted collaboratively between the researcher and the fourth-grade teacher. The research was carried out in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of the study were 23 fourth-grade students. Data were collected through observation of teacher and student activities, test of story dialogue reading skills, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative approaches. The results of the study indicated that the implementation of the Cooperative Script assisted by story dialogue improved students’ dialogue story skills. The average score of students’ dialogue story skills in the initial condition was 56.8, with a mastery learning percentage of 16%. After the implementation of actions in Cycle I, the average score increased to 68.6, with a mastery percentage of 56%. In Cycle II, the average score further increased to 77.6, with a mastery learning percentage reaching 80%, thus meeting the predetermined success criteria. This improvement was also accompanied by increased student activity and motivation during the learning process. The use of a story dialogue helped students develop the ability to read well and correctly, while the Cooperative Script method encourages student cooperation and responsibility for learning. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that The application of the Cooperative Script method assisted by story dialogue is effective in improving the reading skills of Class IV students at SD Negeri 2 Kramat Nganjuk.
