Abstract
English language learning in elementary schools requires innovative learning models that are suited to students’ characteristics in order to improve learning outcomes. The results of the pre-cycle test in Grade II at SDN 1 Brondong showed that students’ English learning outcomes were still not optimal, with most students categorized at a sufficient level. Therefore, improvement efforts are needed through the implementation of more effective and enjoyable learning models. This study aims to improve the English learning outcomes of Grade II students at SDN 1 Brondong through the application of the Make a Match type cooperative learning model assisted by translation dice media. This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The research subjects were 20 Grade II students at SDN 1 Brondong. The research was carried out in two cycles consisting of the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data collection techniques included learning outcome tests, observations, interviews, and documentation. Tests were used to measure improvements in students’ learning outcomes in each cycle, while observations and interviews served as supporting data for the learning process. The results of the study indicate that the application of the Make a Match type cooperative learning model assisted by translation dice media significantly improved students’ English learning outcomes. In the pre-cycle stage, the percentage of students in the sufficient category reached 60%, the good category 30%, and the very good category 10%. After the implementation of actions in Cycle I, the percentage of students in the sufficient category decreased to 30%, while the good category increased to 45% and the very good category increased to 25%. A more optimal improvement in learning outcomes occurred in Cycle II, where the percentage of students in the sufficient category further decreased to 15%, while the good category increased to 50% and the very good category reached 35%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the application of the Make a Match type cooperative learning model assisted by translation dice media is effective in improving the English learning outcomes of Grade II elementary school students.
