Abstract

ABSTRACT Arum Pujiwiyanti. 2025. Improving Students’ Motivation in Writing Short Stories through the Use of Chromebook Media among Sixth-Grade Students of SD Negeri 2 Mlorah, Rejoso District, Nganjuk Regency, Academic Year 2025/2026. Master’s Thesis. Madiun: Master’s Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Graduate School, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Supervisors: (I) Dr. Dwi Setiyadi, M.M.; (II) Dr. Heny Kusuma Widyaningrum, S.Pd., M.Pd. Keywords: learning motivation, short story writing, digital media, Chromebook, classroom action research. This classroom action research aimed to improve students’ learning motivation in writing short stories through the use of Chromebook media among sixth-grade students of SD Negeri 2 Mlorah, Nganjuk Regency, in the 2025/2026 academic year. The low level of students’ learning motivation was caused by conventional learning methods that did not optimally utilize digital media. The research was conducted in two cycles consisting of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection, involving 20 students as research subjects. Data were collected through observation, motivation questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The results showed an improvement in students’ learning motivation in each cycle. The percentage of students with high learning motivation increased from 64% in Cycle I to 88% in Cycle II. In addition, the quality of students’ writing improved in terms of story structure, word choice, and creativity. The study concludes that the use of Chromebook media is effective in increasing students’ motivation to write short stories and in creating a more interactive and engaging learning environment in elementary schools.
