Abstract

This study aims to describe the process of implementing culturally responsive digital media and to analyze its impact on students’ reading skills. The study was conducted using a classroom action research (CAR) approach in two cycles in class IV SDN Balerejo 02, Madiun Regency. The first cycle uses the Direct Instruction learning model with flipbook media based on non-local folklore, while the second cycle uses the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model with flipbook media based on local folklore. Data collection techniques used include observation, interviews, documentation, and assessment tests. Observations to assess student engagement, interviews with teachers and students to gain perspectives on the application of digital media, documentation to record the learning process, and tests to measure student understanding of the material. Data analysis was carried out using qualitative and quantitative methods. Qualitative data were analyzed through observation and interviews, while quantitative data were analyzed by comparing student test results between cycle 1 and cycle 2. The results showed that in cycle 1, 53% of students achieved completion, while in cycle 2 it increased to 80%, with 100% completion in group assessment. This study shows that digital media that is responsive to students' culture is effective in improving reading skill
