Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the problem based learning method on the material of basic concepts of historical science in the Merdeka Curriculum and its effect on the learning motivation of class X students at MAN 4 Madiun. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects were history teachers and grade X students who took part in learning with the problem based learning method on the material on the basic concepts of historical science. The results showed that the application of problem based learning method has been running well in learning the basic concepts of historical science. In addition, the application of this method has a positive impact on student learning motivation, especially in the aspects of collaboration, curiosity drive, and learning independence. Thus, it can be concluded that the problem based learning method is effective in increasing students’ learning motivation in learning history, especially in the material of basic concepts of historical science.
