Abstract

Adolescence is a period of identity discovery where individuals begin to actively develop self-concepts to gain social recognition. During adolescence, motivation arises to present themselves as they consider ideal, both in the real and virtual worlds. Instagram is one of the virtual spaces that allows teenagers to present themselves. The form of self-presentation is divided into ideal self-presentation and actual self-presentation. The purpose of this study was to determine the motivation for using a second Instagram account, the form of self-presentation on the second Instagram account, and the differences between self-presentation on the first and second Instagram accounts. This study used qualitative research with a phenomenological research method. The subjects in this study were 4 students with a purposive sampling technique. The study used techniques such as interviews and document analysis. From the results of interviews and document analysis conducted at SMK PGRI 1 Mejayan, students demonstrated motivation to use a second Instagram account as a space to practice self-disclosure, self-reflection, and express emotions honestly and free from social pressure. The form of self-presentation on the second Instagram account is to hide one's identity, display the real self, and express oneself more freely and safely. The difference between self-presentation in the first account and the second account is that the first account is used to display the ideal self, while the second account is used as a space to display the real self
