Abstract

Writing skills are one of the essential competencies in Indonesian language learning at the elementary school level. However, many students still face difficulties in developing ideas and organizing their writing systematically. Based on the previously formulated research questions, this study aims to examine in depth the implementation of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model combined with Mind Mapping media as an effort to improve the writing skills of fifth-grade students at SDN Bagi 03. This study also aims to analyze the extent of improvement in writing skills following the application of the learning model. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted in two cycles, each consisting of the planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of the study were 12 fifth-grade students at SDN Bagi 03. Data collection techniques included writing skill tests, observation of teacher and student activities, and interviews. The results showed a significant improvement in students' writing skills. In the pre-cycle stage, only 41.6% of students met the Minimum Mastery Criteria (MMC). After implementing the model, mastery increased to 33.3% in cycle I and 91.6% in cycle II, with an average score reaching 90.83. Thus, the CIRC model assisted by Mind Mapping media proved effective as a learning strategy to improve elementary students' writing skills.
