Abstract
ABSTRACT Sri Rahayu Dwi Utari, 2025. Enhancing Motivation and Learning Outcomes in Social Studies Through the Use of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Model Among Eighth Grade Students at SMP Negeri 9 Madiun. Thesis. Madiun. Master’s Program in Social Science Education, Graduate School, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Advisors: (1) Prof. Dr. H. Parji, M.Pd, (2) Prof. Dr. Drs. Muhammad Hanif, M.M, M.Pd. Keywords: Problem-Based Learning, learning motivation, learning outcomes, Social Studies, junior high school This study aims to improve students’ motivation and learning outcomes in Social Studies by implementing the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 9 Madiun. The background of this research stems from the low motivation and poor academic performance in Social Studies, as evidenced by limited active participation and low average class scores. The research method used is classroom action research (CAR), conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 25 students from class VIIID. Data collection techniques included observation, learning motivation questionnaires, achievement tests, and documentation. The results indicate that the application of the PBL model can enhance both student motivation and learning outcomes. There was a significant increase in the average motivation scores from cycle I to cycle II, as well as a gradual improvement in learning outcomes that surpassed the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM). These findings suggest that the PBL model is effective in fostering an active, collaborative, and student-centered learning environment, positively impacting motivation and achievement in Social Studies.
