Abstract
The learning process at MTs Negeri 1 Sragen generally has not yet utilized a portfolio assessment model to foster students' independent character. One reason for this is that teachers still use conventional assessment, which leads to students being less enthusiastic in the learning process. However, assessment methods are crucial in measuring learning outcomes for subject matter. Therefore, this research needs to be carried out with the aim of improving learning outcomes by using a portfolio assessment model to enhance students' independent character. The research method employed classroom action research in two cycles. The implementation period was from March to April 2025. Data collection involved observation and tests. The obtained data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The research results show that the learning outcomes and independent character of Class VIIIE students at MTs Negeri 1 Sragen can be improved through portfolio assessment. The improvement in learning outcomes was indicated by a percentage value of 63.79% in the pre-cycle, 72.41% in cycle I, and 93.10% in cycle II. Meanwhile, the improvement in independent character was shown by a percentage value of 41.38% in the pre-cycle, 68.28% in cycle I, and 89.83% in cycle II. Thus, the achievement of mastery has been reached as it has exceeded the set performance indicator of 85%. Keywords: learning outcomes, independent character, portfolio assessment
