Abstract

This research is a Classroom Action Research (PTK) conducted to improve students' cognitive abilities in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) subjects through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model combined with pop-up book media. The background of this study is based on the results of initial observations which show the low cognitive learning outcomes of third grade students at SDN Klagenserut 01, most of whom have not reached the Minimum Completion Criteria (KKM). This is exacerbated by the use of conventional learning methods that do not actively involve students. The main objective of this study was to determine the improvement of students' cognitive abilities as well as to observe teacher and student activities during the IPAS learning process with the PBL model assisted by pop-up book media. The subjects of this study were 14 third grade students of SDN Klagenserut 01 Madiun Regency in the even semester of the 2024/2025 school year. The results showed a significant increase in students' cognitive abilities. In the pre-cycle, the average student score was 65 with 21.42% completeness. After the action in cycle I, the average score increased to 78.57 with 71.42% completeness, and in cycle II it reached an average of 88.21 with 92.85% completeness. In addition, student activeness in the learning process also increased from 75% to 90%. This study concludes that the PBL model assisted by pop-up book is effective in improving cognitive abilities and student learning activeness in IPAS subjects.
