Abstract

The speaking skills in elementary education need to be enhanced as preparation for students for the next level, thus this study aims to improve students' speaking skills through the application of the storytelling method assisted by flannel board media in the Indonesian Language subject. The subjects of this study were 22 students from the second grade at SDN Bagi 03. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Data collection was carried out through observation, speaking skills assessment, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the application of the storytelling method with the assistance of flannel board media can improve students' speaking skills. This is evident from the increase in the percentage of student speaking skill mastery in each cycle. In the pre-action phase, student mastery only reached 23%, then increased to 59% in Cycle I, and reached 100% in Cycle II. Thus, it can be concluded that the storytelling method assisted by a flannel board is effective in improving the speaking skills of second-grade students at SDN Bagi 03.
