Abstract

Language is an important aspect of human life in communication which is used by someone to convey thoughts, experiences, information and ideas to other people. Language skills require aspects of politeness in speaking so that the purpose of communication can be conveyed well. The realization of language politeness in communication activities is not only implemented directly in everyday human activities, but can also be found in dialogue between characters in a film. Therefore, the form of polite communication can be carried out using the principles of politeness at the pragmatic level. This research aims to describe the application and violation of the principles of politeness in the film Hati Suhita by Khilma Anis. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative research. The data collection technique for this research uses the listening and note-taking technique by collecting data containing the application and violation of the principles of politeness according to Leech, and the data source used is the film Hati Suhita by Khilma Anis. Data validity is carried out by theoretical triangulation with the aim of measuring whether the data is in accordance with what the researcher presented with the actual data. Next, the data analysis technique uses the Miles & Hubermen model of data analysis, where there are several stages, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this research obtained 41 data containing the application and violation of the principles of language politeness as a whole with a data collection period of one month. Details of the forms of application of the principles of language politeness amounted to 31 utterances, while violations amounted to 10 utterances from the total data which amounted to 41 utterances. The application of the principle of politeness is more dominantly found in the use of the maxim of appreciation and less is found in the maxim of wisdom. The most dominant violation of politeness principles is found in the use of the maxim of consensus.
