Abstract

The novel Hujan by Tere Liye is a novel set in the future of 2050, surrounded by advanced technology that helps all human activities and has never been thought of by humans today as in an ideal world or a utopian world. However, this technology betrays humans, a negative side or dystopia begins to emerge in the midst of the utopian world. There are 2 problems raised in this research, namely elements of utopia and elements of dystopia in the novel Rain by Tere Liye. This research uses Lyman Tower Sargent's utopian literary theory, especially the flawed utopia theory which discusses the mixture of utopia and dystopia in literary works. The research method used is a qualitative research method. Data obtained using reading techniques and text analysis in the novel Rain by Tere Liye. The results of the research show that 4 elements were found that describe the world of utopia with 36 data in the novel Rain by Tere Liye and 9 elements of dystopia were found with 58 data in the novel Rain by Tere Liye. According to Sargent's flawed utopia theory, utopia and dystopia can no longer be said to be the perfect or the worst. This is because humans are not perfect creatures so it is impossible to create something perfect, for example science and technology which also have an effect and influence on the future of humans.
