Abstract

ABSTRACT Kholimatun N.P.E. 2025. The Application of the Cooperative Learning Model Picture and Picture to Improve the Civics Learning Outcomes of 2nd Grade Students at SDN Kiyonten. Thesis. Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, PGRI Madiun University. Advisor (I) Vivi Rulviana, S.Pd., (II) Dr. Heny Kusuma Widyaningrum, M.Pd. Keywords: Cooperative Learning, Picture and Picture Model, Civics Learning Outcomes This study aims to improve Civics learning outcomes on the topic of Pancasila principles symbols. Civics education is a mandatory subject taught at various educational levels, including elementary school, secondary school, and higher education. The full term for Civics (PPKn) is "Pendidikan Pancasila dan Kewarganegaraan" (Pancasila and Citizenship Education), as this subject plays a crucial role in shaping students' national identity. Citizenship Education focuses on developing individuals with diverse backgrounds in religion, social culture, language, age, and ethnicity to become intelligent, skilled, and character-driven Indonesian citizens, as mandated by Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution. At SDN Kiyonten 3, the teaching strategies employed were still conventional, making students feel bored and uninterested in learning Civics. To address this issue, the researcher sought an alternative method to increase student engagement. The cooperative learning model "Picture and Picture" was chosen as it is an engaging and enjoyable approach. This model utilizes picture media in the learning process and involves group activities where each student is given either a question or answer card to match. Some groups work on assembling puzzles, while others receive cards for playing games related to Pancasila principles symbols. The implementation of this learning model significantly improved students' understanding of Pancasila symbols. The test results at the end of each cycle showed an increase in scores. The pre-cycle test had an average score of 63.67, which increased to 72.00 in the first cycle and further improved to 81.00 in the second cycle. This indicates that the cooperative learning model Picture and Picture is highly effective in enhancing the quality of learning, particularly in lower- grade classrooms.
