Abstract
Mathematics has an important role in human life. Education in the 21st century emphasizes the combination of knowledge, skills, attitudes and mastery of information technology. Problem solving ability is an ability that plays an important role for students in facing global challenges. Ability to solve problems can improve students' critical thinking and mathematics skills. This research aims to describe the ability of fourth grade students in solving flat shape problems based on Polya Theory. This type of research is qualitative research. In this research, the instruments used were written tests, interviews and documentation. The data collection techniques used were written tests, interviews and documentation. The subjects of this research were 3 class IV students at SDN 01 Mojorejo. The results of the research show that there are three categories of students' ability to solve plane problems based on Polya Theory, namely 1) Students with the ability to solve problems in the high category, students with the high category can understand the problem, plan the problem solving, carry out the problem solving, and recheck the results of the solution. problem well. 2) Students with the ability to solve problems in the moderate category, students in this category have the ability to understand problems, plan problem solving, carry out problem solving, and review the results of problem solving quite well. 3) Students with low category problem solving abilities, students in this category have poor abilities in understanding problems, planning problem solving, carrying out problem solving, and re-examining the results of problem solving.
