Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe the improvement of initial reading skills in class I students at Babadan 2 Paron Ngawi Elementary School using a participatory group model because so far students' initial reading abilities are still lacking and learning has so far been limited to worksheets, markers and whiteboards. This research is classroom action research carried out in a collaborative, participatory manner using the Kemmis and Mc.Taggart research model. The subjects in this research were class I students at SDN Babadan 2 Paron Ngawi. The method used in this research is qualitative classroom action research. The strategy used in this research is a case study with the steps of planning, taking action, observing and reflecting. Data collection techniques include interviews, direct observation and tests. The results of the research showed that there was an increase in the initial reading ability of class I students at SDN Babadan 2 Paron Ngawi. This increase can be seen from the observation results which increase in each cycle. Cycle I: average reading practice results 7.00. In the first cycle, the number of students who got marks from reading practice was 10 out of 25 students, or 40%. Cycle II: average reading practice results 7.50. In cycle II, the number of students who got a score from the reading practice was 12 out of 25 students, or 48%. This success is influenced by the participatory group learning model: (1) Conveying goals and preparing students. (2) Demonstrate knowledge or skills. (3) Guiding training. (4) Check understanding and provide feedback. (5) Provide opportunities for further training, with motivation.
