Abstract

The ability to write explanatory texts is a crucial skill that supports students' literacy mastery, particularly in understanding and presenting natural and social phenomena logically and systematically. However, students' performance in this aspect remains relatively low. Based on the research problem, this study aims to improve the explanatory text writing ability of sixth-grade students at SDN Kutukulon, Ponorogo Regency, in the 2024/2025 academic year through the implementation of the Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) learning strategy. The study focused on Indonesian language subjects, specifically on explanatory text writing materials. It was conducted during the first semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The population of this study comprised all 10 sixth-grade students at SDN Kutukulon. This research is classified as populative since it involves the entire population as the research subjects. The learning activities included three stages: (1) preparation for writing explanatory texts individually and in groups, (2) group-based explanatory text writing, and (3) explanatory text writing based on a reading passage. These stages were implemented in each cycle. The results indicate that the application of the STAD strategy effectively improved students' ability to write explanatory texts. In the first cycle, nine students scored below the minimum competency standard (KKM), with a classical completeness rate of 10%. In the second cycle, there was a significant improvement, with all 10 students scoring above the KKM, achieving a classical completeness rate of 100%. Based on the analysis of both cycles, it can be concluded that the STAD strategy also fosters student engagement in the learning process, enhances learning motivation, and strengthens collaboration among students. Thus, the STAD strategy has proven to be effective in enhancing students' explanatory text writing skills.
