Keywords: Ekranization, Novel, Film, Plot, Characters, Background This research is titled Ekraization of the Kretek Girl Novel into the Kretek Girl Movie. One of the studies used in literary reception writing is ekranization. Ekranization is the whitewashing or transfer of a novel into a film. Ekranization is a process of whitewashing or moving or lifting a novel into a film. The move from the novel to the white screen inevitably resulted in various changes. The objectives of this study are 1) To describe and explain the ekranization of the novel into the film Gadis Kretek in terms of plot. 2) Describe and explain the ekranization of the novel into the Kretek Girl film in terms of characters. 3) Describe and explain the ekranization of the novel into the film Kretek Girl from the background. The type of research in this study is qualitative with the approach used is ekranization. The data from this study are excerpts from the novel Girl Kretek and scenes from the movie Girl Kretek Data collection is carried out by the documentation method then transcribed by listening and recording into written language. The data analysis technique was carried out with a content analysis model. The results of this study showed: 1) there were variations in the plot of the novel to the Kretek Girl film, 2) there were variations in the novel characters to the Kretek Girl film, 3) there were variations in the novel to the Kretek Girl film, 3) there were variations in the novel to the Kretek Girl film The three can be found using the content analysis method. Thus, the theory of ekranization proves that a film based on a novel has differences even though they are broadly the same.
