Abstract

The minority situation of female students at SMK Gamaliel 1 Madiun is feared to cause discrimination against the freedom to obtain education for female students. This study aims to determine the role of teachers in instilling gender equality values in students at SMK Gamaliel 1 Madiun and to determine the obstacles experienced by teachers in instilling gender equality values in students. This study uses a qualitative case study research method. Data collection techniques used in this study are observation, interviews and documentation. The data obtained came from primary data sources and secondary data sources with data validation of source triangulation and technique triangulation. The results obtained from the study showed that teachers had succeeded in instilling gender equality values in their students. Through their role as a source of learning by trying to become a fair source of learning. As a facilitator by providing freely accessible facilities. As a manager of the learning process by creating a conducive classroom atmosphere fairly. As a demonstrator who provides examples to instill gender equality values. As a mentor by directing an understanding of gender equality values. As a motivator by motivating to instill gender equality values. As an evaluator providing fairness in the assessment without bias. Teachers found obstacles in instilling gender equality values, namely only 1 class had female students, where female students were a minority, different needs and responses and mindsets possessed by students obtained from outside the school. Through the role of teachers, a school environment that is anti-discriminatory and tolerant of gender differences has been realized, in accordance with the indicators of gender-responsive schools.
