Abstract
This study aims to improve students' critical thinking skills by implementing the Project Based Learning model. The subjects of this study were 16 students of grade 4 of SDN Patihan. This study used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method which was carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consists of 3 stages, namely planning, implementation, and results. Data collection techniques used documentation, observation and testing. Instruments in the form of module documentation grid/check sheets, learning process observation sheets, and test question guidelines/grids. Data analysis techniques used qualitative and quantitative data. The results of the study showed that the application of the Project Based Learning model in each cycle increased critical thinking skills in science learning for grade 4 students of SDN Patihan. This can be seen at the planning stage, the results of the module documentation grid/check sheets for cycle I and cycle II were suitable for use without any revision. At the implementation stage, the results of the cycle I observation sheet in teacher and student learning were not optimal, while in cycle II it was known that teachers and students had improved the learning process so that it became optimal. Then the results of the increase can be seen from the average value of the critical thinking ability process in the pre-cycle is 68 with a percentage of completion of 37.5%. After that, in cycle I got an average value of 76 with a percentage of 62.5% and the average value in cycle II is 82 with a percentage of 87.5%. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the application of the Project Based Learning model can improve the critical thinking skills of grade 4 students of SDN Patihan.
