Abstract

This research was chosen with the aim of finding out students' mistakes in solving mathematics story problems based on Newman's theory for elementary school students. The research was conducted in class IV at SDN Klangon 01. This type of research is qualitative research with qualitative descriptive research methods. Data sampling was carried out using purposive sampling. The research subjects that will be used are 3 students. Data collection used in this research was written tests, interviews and documentation. The validity of the data used is source triangulation. The data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research results show that students often experience difficulty in solving math story problems. There are 5 indications of student errors in solving mathematics story problems, including reading errors, errors in understanding the problem, problem transformation, process skills, and writing/notation. Analysis of student errors in solving mathematics story problems based on Newman's Theory provides a deep understanding of the challenges students face in learning mathematics. The results of this analysis have important implications for the development of more effective curriculum and learning strategies in elementary schools.
