Abstract
Sumaryanto. 2026. The Use of Discovery Learning Method Assisted by AudioVisual Media to Improve Narrative Writing Skills of Fourth-Grade Students at SD Negeri 1 Dompyong, Bendungan District, Kabupaten Trenggalek.. Thesis. Master’s Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education. Graduate School, Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA). Supervisor I: Dr. Dwi Setyadi, M.M, Supervisor II: Dr. Ermi Andriani Meikayanti, M.Pd Keywords: Discovery Learning, Audio-Visual Media, Narrative Writing, Innovative Learning, Elementary School. This research is motivated by the low narrative writing skills of elementary school students, particularly in developing story plots, vocabulary usage, and organizing ideas coherently. Conventional learning methods tend to make students passive and limit their creativity in expressing ideas. Therefore, an innovative and engaging learning method is needed, one of which is the discovery learning method assisted by audio-visual media. The objective of this study is to improve students’ narrative writing skills and to describe the process and outcomes of implementing the discovery learning method assisted by audio-visual media. This study employs a qualitative approach with a classroom action research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles. The subjects were fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 1 Dompyong, Bendungan District, Kabupaten Trenggalek. Data were collected through observation, interviews, narrative writing tests, and documentation. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative techniques with the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings indicate that the use of the discovery learning method assisted by audio-visual media significantly improves students’ narrative writing skills. Students become more active in discovering story ideas, are able to organize plots coherently, and use more varied vocabulary. In addition, students show high enthusiasm as the learning process utilizes engaging and contextual audio-visual media. In conclusion, the discovery learning method assisted by audio-visual media is effective in improving narrative writing skills of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Dompyong, Bendungan District, Kabupaten Trenggalek.
