Abstract

This study aimed to explore the use of Celine Dion's The Power of the Dream song lyrics in teaching listening to second-semester English Education students. A qualitative descriptive design was employed, with data collected through classroom observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña's interactive model. The findings revealed that the implementation followed the pre-listening, while-listening, and post-listening stages, encouraging active participation and meaningful engagement. Students perceived the song lyrics as authentic listening materials that enhanced listening comprehension, expanded vocabulary, increased motivation, and created an enjoyable learning atmosphere despite challenges related to pronunciation and unfamiliar vocabulary. The findings support previous studies emphasizing the value of authentic materials in listening instruction. In conclusion, The Power of the Dream song lyrics serve as an effective authentic resource that promotes meaningful listening experiences and supports English language learning in the Indonesian EFL context.
