Abstract

This study aims to empirically examine how self-directed learning and achievement motivation influence the descriptive writing skills of fifth-grade elementary school students in Magetan. The research method used was quantitative, with a sample of 25 students selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and descriptive writing tests and then analyzed using multiple regression analysis. The results indicate that self-directed learning and achievement motivation simultaneously have a positive and significant effect on the descriptive writing skills of fifth-grade elementary school students. This is evidenced by the F-test results with a significance value of 0.000 (sig < 0.05). The coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.505 indicates that 50.5% of the variation in students’ descriptive writing skills can be explained by self-directed learning and achievement motivation, while the remaining 49.5% is influenced by other factors.
