Abstract
ABSTRACT Sari, Tri Rawang. 2026. Improving Poetry Writing Skills Through the Real World Learning Approach Assisted by Surrounding Natural Media for Grade V Students of SD Negeri Pupus 2, Lembeyan District, Magetan Regency. Thesis. Master’s Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Postgraduate School, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Advisors: (I) Dr. Elva Nuraina, S.E., M.Si., (II) Dr. Sigit Ricahyono, S.S., M.Pd. Keywords: poetry writing, real world learning, surrounding natural media This study aims to describe and explain: (1) the implementation of the real world learning approach assisted by surrounding natural media in poetry writing instruction, and (2) the activities of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri Pupus 2, Lembeyan District, Magetan Regency, during the learning process. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles involving fifth-grade students of SD Negeri Pupus 2 as the research subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and poetry writing skill tests. The results showed that: (1) the application of the real world learning approach assisted by surrounding natural media effectively improved students' poetry writing skills, as evidenced by the increase in average scores from the baseline (pre-cycle) of 61.97 (fair category), rising to 74.08 (fair category) in Cycle I, and reaching 81.80 (good category) in Cycle II; (2) student activities and responses toward the learning process were highly positive. Observational data revealed that students' attention to the teacher's explanation increased from 75% in Cycle I to 90% in Cycle II. Furthermore, student inactivity significantly decreased from 25% in Cycle I to 10% (4 students) in Cycle II. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the real world learning approach assisted by surrounding natural media is effective in enhancing students' poetry writing skills and learning engagement.
