This research is motivated by the low ability of elementary school students in understanding paragraphs, particularly in identifying main ideas, supporting sentences, and relationships between sentences. Learning that relies heavily on text without varied media makes students less active and hinders their comprehension. Therefore, an engaging and interactive learning method is needed, one of which is the use of literacy methods assisted by random story card media. The objective of this study is to improve students’ paragraph comprehension skills and to describe the process and outcomes of using random story card media in literacy learning. This study employs a qualitative approach with a classroom action research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles. The subjects were fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 2 Kendalrejo, Kabupaten Trenggalek. Data were collected through observation, interviews, paragraph comprehension tests, and documentation. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative techniques with the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings indicate that the use of literacy methods assisted by random story card media significantly improves students’ paragraph comprehension skills. Students become more active in arranging story sequences, are able to identify main ideas and supporting sentences, and understand the relationships between sentences within a paragraph. In addition, students show high enthusiasm as the learning process is engaging and participatory. In conclusion, literacy methods assisted by random story card media are effective in improving paragraph comprehension skills of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Kendalrejo, Kabupaten Trenggalek.
