Titis Winduri Ngestiani. 2026. The Role of School Counselors in Developing Career Maturity of Students at SMA Negeri 1 Jiwan. Undergraduate Thesis. Guidance and Counseling Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas PGRI Madiun, Supervisor I: Silvia Yula Wardani M. Pd.; Supervisor II: Dr. Suharni, S. Pd., M.Psi. Career maturity is an important aspect of senior high school students' development as it reflects their readiness to recognize their potential, determine further education pathways, and plan their future careers. However, many students still experience difficulties in making appropriate career decisions, indicating the need for guidance and counseling services. This study aimed to describe the career maturity of eleventh-grade students, analyze the role of school counselors in developing students' career maturity, and identify the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting counselors' roles at SMA Negeri 1 Jiwan. This study employed a qualitative descriptive research design. The participants consisted of two school counselors and five eleventh-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and document analysis. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation, technique triangulation, and member checking. The data were analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that the eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Jiwan demonstrated a relatively good level of career maturity, as indicated by their ability to recognize their interests, talents, and personal potential, understand further education options, and formulate future career plans. School counselors played significant roles by providing career information services, classroom guidance, individual counseling, educational consultation, motivation, and assistance in career decision-making. These services helped students gain a better understanding of themselves and various educational and career opportunities. Supporting factors included counselors' professional competence, school support, collaboration with parents, and the availability of career information. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors consisted of limited counseling time, the imbalance between the number of counselors and students, students' lack of self-confidence, and the influence of peers and the surrounding environment. Therefore, school counselors play an essential role in developing students' career maturity through well-planned and sustainable career guidance services.
