Abstract

Critical thinking skills are one of the essential competencies in 21st-century learning; however, students’ critical thinking abilities remain relatively low, particularly in the topic of Systems of Linear Equations in Two Variables (SPLDV). This condition is supported by observations conducted at SMK Ma’arif Dolopo, which showed that students experienced difficulties in analyzing contextual problems, constructing mathematical models, and connecting mathematical concepts with real-life situations. In addition, the use of interactive learning media was still limited, resulting in a learning process that tended to be teacher-centered. This study aimed to develop a contextual-based interactive e-module that meets the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness in improving students’ critical thinking skills. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE development model, consisting of the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The research subjects consisted of 6 students in the limited trial and 20 students in the field trial at SMK Ma’arif Dolopo. The results showed that the e-module achieved a validity score of 84%, categorized as valid; a practicality score of 93%, categorized as very practical; and an N-Gain score of 56%, categorized as moderately effective. These findings support the application of contextual learning in mathematics and provide an alternative digital teaching material that can assist teachers in creating more interactive learning and support the improvement of students’ critical thinking skills. Therefore, the contextual-based interactive e-module is suitable for use as teaching material for the topic of SPLDV and can serve as a reference for developing mathematics learning media for other topics.
