Abstract
Writing is one of the essential language skills in English language learning. However, many English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students still experience difficulties in organizing ideas, applying appropriate grammar, using varied vocabulary, and producing coherent descriptive texts. These problems were also identified among tenth-grade students at SMK Gamaliel 1 Madiun. Accordingly, this study sought to examine the influence of the Please Strategy on students' descriptive writing abilities. This research adopted a quasi-experimental design involving 50 tenth-grade students at SMK Gamaliel 1 Madiun. The sample comprised 25 students assigned to the experimental class and 25 students assigned to the control class. The experimental class received instruction through the Please Strategy, whereas the control class was taught using conventional teaching methods. The research instrument consisted of a writing test administered during the pre-test and post-test sessions. The collected data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, Levene's Test for Equality of Variances, and the Independent Samples t-test at a significance level of 0.05 using SPSS version 26. The results demonstrated that the experimental class exhibited greater improvement than the control class. The mean score of the experimental class increased from 52.80 on the pre-test to 86.20 on the post-test, whereas the control class improved from 57.44 to 66.80. The Independent Samples t-test produced a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference between both groups. Consequently, the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H₁) was accepted. In conclusion, the Please Strategy exerted a significant positive influence on the descriptive writing abilities of tenth-grade students at SMK Gamaliel 1 Madiun. The strategy effectively helped students generate ideas, organize information, develop coherent paragraphs, and improve the overall quality of their descriptive writing.
