Abstract

Improper household medication management can lead to Drug-Related Problems (DRPs) and various health and environmental risks. Housewives play a central role in family medication management, and the quality of these practices is thought to be influenced by their perceptions of the risks and benefits of proper medication management. This study aims to identify housewives' perceptions and practices in household medication management in Madiun City, and to analyze the influence of these perceptions on these practices using the Health Belief Model (HBM) approach. This study is an observational analytical study with a cross-sectional design. The study sample consisted of 221 housewives in Madiun City, selected using purposive sampling and proportionate stratified random sampling techniques. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test because the data were not normally distributed. The results showed that the average housewives' perception score was 57.57 (maximum score 68), while the average drug management practice score was 65.76 (maximum score 80), both of which are in the good category. The Spearman Rank correlation test showed a significant and strong relationship between perceptions and medication management practices (r = 0.611; p = 0.000; p < 0.05). The better the housewives' perceptions, the better their medication management practices. Conclusion: There is a significant influence between perceptions and medication management practices among housewives in Madiun City. Ongoing education regarding the DAGUSIBU principles needs to be continuously improved to maintain and strengthen good perceptions and practices in the community.
