Abstract
This research is motivated by the low listening skills of third-grade students at SDN Tanjungsari, Kecamatan Panekan, Kabupaten Magetan, as shown by difficulties in grasping oral information, understanding story content, and lack of focus and attention during learning. The objective is to improve listening skills through the implementation of a storytelling method using cardboard puppets based on local folktales. This Classroom Action Research was conducted in two cycles comprising planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects were third-grade students. Data were collected through listening tests, observation sheets on student activities, and field notes, then analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods. The findings indicate that students' listening skills improved significantly after the intervention. The use of cardboard puppets featuring characters from local folktales made students more interested and focused while listening, enabling them to remember event sequences, grasp messages, and answer comprehension questions more accurately. The interactive storytelling method also encouraged students to be more active in asking questions and participating in discussions. The achievement of performance indicators by the end of the cycles exceeded the established minimum mastery criteria. In conclusion, the implementation of the storytelling method with cardboard puppets based on local folktales is effective and can serve as an innovative approach for improving listening skills in elementary schools.
