Abstract
ABSTRACT Reni Ida Kuswati. 2026. The Use of Mind Mapping Method Assisted by Regional Songs to Improve Non-Fiction Text Summarizing Ability in Fifth-Grade Students of SDN Sumberdodol 1, Kecamatan Panekan, Kabupaten Magetan. Thesis. Master’s Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education. Graduate School, Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA). Supervisor I: Dr. Panji Kuncoro Hadi, SS., M.Pd, Supervisor II: Dr. Dwi Rohman Soleh, S.S., M.Pd. Keywords: Short Sentence Writing Ability, Daily Experiences, Classroom Action Research, Elementary School. This research is motivated by the low ability of fifth-grade students at SDN Sumberdodol 1, Kecamatan Panekan, Kabupaten Magetan, in summarizing non-fiction texts, as shown by difficulties in identifying main ideas, organizing information, and composing coherent summaries. The objective is to improve non-fiction text summarizing ability through the use of mind mapping method assisted by regional songs. This Classroom Action Research was conducted in two cycles comprising planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects were fifth-grade students. Data were collected through summarizing tests, observation sheets on student activities, and field notes, then analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods. The findings indicate that students' summarizing ability improved significantly after the intervention. The use of mind mapping helped students visually map main ideas and supporting details, while regional songs inserted into learning created a relaxed atmosphere and enhanced memory retention. Students were able to identify important information, compose cohesive summary sentences, and showed improvement in independence and collaboration within groups. The achievement of performance indicators by the end of the cycles exceeded the established minimum mastery criteria. In conclusion, the mind mapping method assisted by regional songs is effective and recommended as an innovative strategy for improving non-fiction text summarizing ability in elementary schools.
