Abstract
Students' critical thinking skills regarding statistics remain low because the learning process has not optimally utilized instructional media. Meanwhile, the practice of planting porang (konjac) seedlings a cultural activity in Pacitan incorporates various mathematical concepts that can serve as learning resources through an ethnomathematical approach. Therefore, this study aims to develop an ethnomathematics-based e-book centered on porang seedling planting to enhance the critical thinking skills of 8th-grade students in statistics. The study employs the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, comprising the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Data sources included subject matter experts, media experts, mathematics teachers, and 8th-grade students from SMP Negeri 4 Tulakan (10 students for the limited trial and 31 students for the field trial). Data were collected via questionnaires, critical thinking tests, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis involved assessments of validity and practicality, normality testing, Paired Sample t-Tests, and N-Gain analysis. The results indicate that the developed e-book meets the criteria for being highly valid (98.53% validity) and highly practical (91% practicality). The e-book also proved effective, as evidenced by Paired Sample t-Test results showing significant differences between pre-test and post-test scores in both the limited trial (Sig. = 0.001) and the field trial (Sig. = 0.000). The average N-Gain scores of 0.45 and 0.55 fall into the medium category. Thus, the ethnomathematics-based e-book on porang seedling planting is valid, practical, and effective for improving students' critical thinking skills.
