Abstract
Students' mathematical understanding of 2D shapes remains suboptimal. Many students struggle to recognize and distinguish between 2D shapes, understand their characteristics, and relate them to objects in their surroundings. A lack of innovation in teaching models and engaging instructional media contributes to this low level of understanding. A potential solution to this problem is the implementation of the Team Games Tournament (TGT) cooperative learning model supported by Fun Thinkers Book (FTB) media. This study aims to determine the effect of the TGT cooperative learning model supported by FTB media on the understanding of 2D shapes among second-grade elementary school students. This is a quantitative study employing an experimental method and a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The study involved second-grade students from SDN Bendo 1 (20 students) as the control group, taught using the lecture method, and second-grade students from SDN Sugihwaras 1 (20 students) as the experimental group, taught using the TGT cooperative learning model supported by FTB media. Data collection was conducted through testing. Data analysis revealed that the test scores of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group. The calculated t-value was 7.987, while the t-table value was 2.024. Since the calculated t-value (7.987) exceeded the t-table value (2.024), the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Hi) was accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of the TGT cooperative learning model supported by FTB media has a positive effect on the understanding of 2D shapes among second-grade elementary school students.
