Abstract
This research was motivated by the continued presence of various language errors at the morphological and syntactic levels in observation report texts written by Grade X students at MAN 4 Madiun. These errors indicate that students still struggle to apply proper and correct Indonesian language rules, thereby affecting the clarity of information and the quality of their writing. This study aims to (1) describe the forms of language errors at the morphological level, (2) describe the forms of language errors at the syntactic level, and (3) explain the implications of the error analysis results for the instruction of writing observation reports. This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study design. The research data consist of observation report texts written by Grade X B and X C students at MAN 4 Madiun. Primary data were obtained from the writings of 60 students, while secondary data were gathered through instructional documents. Data collection techniques included writing tests, observation, documentation, and interviews. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation and technique triangulation, while data analysis was conducted through the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research results indicate that language errors at the morphological level include errors in writing the prefix *di-*, the use of non-standard words, affixation errors, errors in determining word forms, and composition errors. The most dominant errors were found in the writing of the prefix *di-*—which was still frequently separated from passive verbs—and the use of non-standard words. Meanwhile, at the syntactic level, errors were identified involving ineffective, illogical, wordy, and incoherent sentences, as well as sentences lacking grammatical correctness. The study's findings indicate that the identified language errors can serve as a basis for evaluation and instructional improvement in teaching the writing of observation reports—specifically regarding the mastery of morphological and syntactic rules, the use of standard vocabulary, and the construction of effective sentences.
