Alfiatul Baidriyah. 2026. The Implementation of Bilingualism in Instruction within the Grade VIII Bilingual Class at MTsN 1 Magetan. Undergraduate Thesis, Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Supervisors: (1) Eni Winarsih, M.Pd. and (2) Dhika Puspitasari, S.Hum., M.A. This study is motivated by the implementation of bilingual instruction in the Grade VIII Bilingual class at MTsN 1 Magetan, which utilizes both Indonesian and English as languages of instruction. The use of these two languages gives rise to phenomena known as code-switching and code-mixing during the learning process, serving as communication strategies to facilitate student understanding. This study aims to describe the implementation of bilingualism in instruction, the forms of code-switching and code-mixing employed by the teacher, the strategies for their use, and the challenges encountered during the learning process. A qualitative approach with a descriptive research design was adopted. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving the teacher and students of the Grade VIII Bilingual class at MTsN 1 Magetan. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. Data analysis utilized the interactive model proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, comprising data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that bilingualism is implemented by integrating Indonesian and English during material delivery, instruction, question-and-answer sessions, and learning evaluations. A total of 46 utterances containing elements of bilingualism were identified, consisting of 15 instances of code-switching and 31 instances of code-mixing. Among the 31 instances of code-mixing, 13 involved single words and 18 involved phrases. The use of code-switching and code-mixing serves to clarify the subject matter, enhance interaction, facilitate student comprehension, and familiarize students with the use of English in the learning environment. Challenges encountered include disparities in students' English proficiency, limited vocabulary, and low self-confidence among some students.
